Sydney McLaughlin Runs World's Fastest U20 300 Meters in Collegiate DebutPublished by
Sydney McLaughlin Runs US#5 All-Time 300 Meters at Hoosier IndoorBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor Sydney McLaughlin ran a US#2 all-time 36.12 seconds for 300 meters Friday at the Hoosier Indoor. Her mark was the second-fastest indoors, trailing only the American record 35.71 set in January by Quanera Hayes. McLaughlin was running in her collegiate debut for Kentucky. Her performance made her the No. 2 all-time collegiate performer, including the fastest by an American. The collegiate indoor record of 35.83 was set in 1981 by Jamaica's Merlene Ottey, competing for Nebraska. The performance by McLaughlin was a World Under-20 all-time best, eclipsing the mark of 36.56 set by Candace Hill at the U.S. Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. Her effort can't be considered a World U20 record, since the 300 isn't recognized by IAAF officials as a record-eligible event. McLaughlin also improved to No. 6 all-time among world indoor performers and 20th overall on the global list. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, also running for Kentucky, finished second in 37.91. More news |
